On behalf of all the Officers of the Kosciusko Police Department we welcome you to our website. This site has been created with the goal of providing information about our Department and police-related activity in our community. We hope that you will visit this site frequently.

Mission Statement
Our department responds to citizens requests for information, coordinates activities with community organizations and assists school administrators in support of safer schools. We also facilitate the safe and expedient movement of vehicular and pedestrian traffic, provide neighborhood patrols, and serve as a presence for the deterrence of crime. Through the continued education and training of sworn officers, we make the city of Kosciusko a safe community.
Early Beginnings
The police department was formally established in 1836, twenty five years before the Civil War, with the appointment of the first Town Marshall.
Present
At this time the Kosciusko Police Department employs 19 sworn Officers.
Department Staffing
The Chief of Police is appointed by the City Board of Aldermen.
All other positions are filled by background screening, written POST exam, physical exams and testing and interviews conducted by the Police Department. Successful candidates are then recommended by the Chief of Police for hiring to the Mayor and then approved or disapproved by the Board of Aldermen.
Police ranks are promotional and based on performance and knowledge, as mandated by City and Police Department Policy and Procedures.
Jurisdiction of the Department
The department is responsible for the enforcement of city ordinances, state and federal laws within the city limits of Kosciusko, an area encompassing approximately 7.6 square miles and populated by 7,372 residents.
